This week, I caught up with an old friend from high school, and we got deep into sharing stories about how life has changed us. Somewhere in the conversation, he dropped this little gem. He reminded me of a question that’s deceptively simple yet deeply impactful:
“Is it true?”
When the ego tries to take center stage, whispering doubts or insecurities, you know that voice in your head that loves to stir up doubts or throw shade? Mine’s named Mr. No (story for another day). But seriously—when that inner critic starts up, it’s easy to just believe whatever it says. Things like “You’re not good enough,” “You’ll never make it,” or “It’s too late”—we’ve all heard it, right? But here’s the trick: almost every time, these thoughts aren’t true. They’re just noise.
So, here’s a challenge for the week
When that voice starts yapping, stop for a sec and ask, “Wait… is this even true?” Get a little curious. And if you feel like it, ask yourself, “What’s actually true here?” You might find that those thoughts are just on autopilot, running wild, but they don’t have to be your reality.
This week, try tuning in to that voice and catching it in the act. When it tries to flex its “lie muscles,” just pause, take a breath, and ask, “Is it true?” You might be surprised by how much lighter you feel when you realize it’s all just background noise.
With curiosity and clarity,
xoxo Tracy
