Progress Over Perfection—Time to POP!

Progress Over Perfection—Time to POP!

Back in my corporate days, I had this sticky note on my desk that said “Progress Over Perfection”—or as I like to call it, POP! It was my way of reminding myself to let go of the whole “everything has to be just right” mindset and just… start.

Perfectionism and I go way back. Not in a look-how-amazing-I-am way—more like a fear-driven-please-don’t-judge-me kind of way. It’s exhausting. And you know what I finally realized? That perfectionism is just fear. Fear of not being good enough, fear of being judged, fear of messing up.

What does help? POP. Here’s why progress wins every time:

  • Perfect is boring.
Really boring. Nobody likes a flawless story—where’s the fun in that?
  • Perfect isn’t relatable.
The characters we love most in movies are messy and human, just like us. We’re all rooting for the coffee-spilling, late-to-the-meeting heroine, right?
  • Perfect doesn’t exist.
It’s a moving target no one can hit.

When you catch yourself hesitating, waiting for “the right time,” or trying to make everything flawless, just stop. Think POP! Picture that perfection balloon bursting and take one messy, courageous step forward.

Your beautiful shift this week: Start the thing. Take the step. Do it messy. Let progress be your new best friend.

With love and a little POP,
xoxo Tracy
