We’re taught to plan. To be responsible. To have a roadmap before making big decisions.
And sure, planning is great. But at some point, the plan stops being helpful and starts being an excuse to stay exactly where you are.
I used to think if I just planned hard enough, I’d figure everything out ahead of time. That I’d reach a point where I could say, Okay, now I have every answer, every safety net, every guarantee in place—NOW I can take the leap.
But that moment never came.
And if you’re waiting for that moment too? I have to tell you—it doesn’t exist.
The Waiting Game
Have you ever caught yourself saying…
- I’ll do it when I have more time.
- I just need to figure out the details first.
- I’ll start once I know exactly how it’ll all work out.
These sound like smart, reasonable things to say, right? But they’re also the sneakiest way we keep ourselves stuck—without even realizing it.
Because what we’re really saying is: I won’t start until I have a guarantee that it will work.
And since that guarantee never comes, neither does the action.
The Truth About Clarity
Here’s the wild thing:
Clarity doesn’t come before you move. It comes because you move.
We think we need a plan to give us clarity. But most of the time? Clarity only shows up after we’ve taken the first step.
Think about a time in your life when you just went for something—even before you had all the details figured out.
- Maybe you started a project before knowing where it would lead.
- Maybe you reached out to someone just to see what would happen.
- Maybe you said yes to an opportunity even though you weren’t fully “ready.”
And somehow… things started falling into place.
That’s because action creates momentum. Momentum brings clarity. But none of that can happen if you’re waiting on certainty before you start.
Try This Instead
What if, instead of obsessing over how, you just focused on what’s next?
Instead of waiting for the whole roadmap, what if you just took the next step that’s right in front of you?
This week, I want to invite you to get just a little more comfortable with the unknown.
- Say yes to something before you have it all figured out.
- Follow what feels exciting, even if you don’t know where it leads.
- Trust that the path will unfold—not because you mapped it out perfectly, but because you dared to take the first step.
Consider this, what if the thing you’re waiting for is actually waiting for you to go first?
That hesitation, that uncertainty—it’s not a sign to stop. It’s an invitation to step forward.
Here’s to taking the next step,
xoxo Tracy
